When the Dallas Stars are in the postseason, Al Montoya stated absolutely everyone wins, especially the community.
Montoya is the first Cuban-American to play inside the NHL and is currently the Dallas Stars Vice President of Cultural Growth and Strategy. Montoya is obsessed with growing the Stars and the game of hockey with beneath-represented communities both domestically and internationally.
"We just got here again from a experience to Mexico City and we can be going back there soon," Montoya stated. "For us, that's in reality an opportunity to truely display what we have been doing and get our message across."
That message is that hockey is a game for every person. Their mission is to convey that message to children who won't in any other case have had get admission to.
"We started Learn to Play. It's a six-week program for four- to 10-year-olds in Mexico City. We started in April and they'll finish the program in May. It's an opportunity for them to bring the sports we have." more love and give them that opportunity to play." Montoya said.
The program includes 50 children, in partnership with the National Hockey League.
Locally, Montoya worked to partner with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas to work on a free Future Stars program, bringing hockey to schools and venues across the region The Future Stars program has grown from places two by 2023 to nine by 2024.
